Kiwis lack proper etiquette

Kiwis lack proper etiquette

A survey conducted recently by Ferrero Rocher has shown that many New Zealanders lack proper manners when attending a gathering at a friend’s house.

The research showed that 30% of Kiwis will neglect to take a gift despite 50% of Kiwis expecting to receive one from guests, the worst offenders those aged 19-29 years old.

Ferrero has enlisted Julie Le Clerc, best-selling cookbook author and notable expert on Kiwi dining, as its ambassador and to help re-educate Kiwis on etiquette.

“When a host has taken the time and effort to put together a lovely meal or event, it’s only polite to bring a gift to thank them,” said Julie. “Many Kiwis will bring a bottle of their own wine to drink, but neglect to bring a thoughtful extra something for their host.”

Of nearly 600 New Zealanders surveyed, the following key results were found:
• 30% of Kiwis neglect to take a gift when attending dinner at a friend’s house
• 30% of Kiwis host a dinner party once a month
• 35% of Kiwis attend a dinner party once a month
• 50% of Kiwis expect their guests to bring something
• 98% are thankful to receive a host gift
• 37% of those aged 19-29 don’t take a gift
• 22% aged 30-39 don’t take a gift
• 35% aged 40-49 don’t take a gift
• 29% aged 50+ don’t take a gift
