Reminder on kids' 'fish out' days

With only day’s to go before the next kids ‘fish out’ day at Fish & Game’s Ngongotaha trout hatchery, staff are reminding parents and caregivers to make a booking.

The next fish out day is on this Sunday – July 14, 2013.

The popular days where local anglers pass on their expertise, showing children how to catch a fish, have been re-organised to streamline procedures.

Eastern Fish & Game officer Mark Sherburn says, “We’d hate people to think this is just some unnecessary bureaucracy – we are trying to ease delays and improve the experience for participants.

“We hope this new booking system will cut waiting times, and make things more enjoyable for kids and adults alike.”

Mr Sherburn says the Rotorua Angler’s Association members who kindly step in to tutor the kids, are limited in the number of fishers per hour they can handle. By working ahead with a booking system we hope to make things easier for the volunteers and the participants, he says.

Parents and caregivers who are planning to take their children to one of the days, are urged to pone the Fish & Game office during office hours (07) 357 5501 to make their booking. “Calling early will also enable people to pick and choose their preferred fishing time,” Mr Sherburn says.

The kids’ fish out days are for children aged six to 14 years-old, and are held at one of the hatchery’s trout pools, Paradise Valley Road, Ngongotaha.

The fish out days are kindly sponsored by Rainbow Springs in Rotorua.
