Super City II premieres tonight on TV3

Super City II premieres tonight on TV3

Madeleine Sami returns tonight with four new outrageous characters living in the country’s Super City. These acutely observed personalities are drawn from the more suburban parts of Auckland.

Ofa is a welfare case-manager demanding everyone follow in her footsteps out of poverty. Levi is a new half-back in his South Auckland rugby team and desperate to be one of the ‘boys’. Mary is an ambitious rocker desperate to escape from Howick but denigrated to singing pub gigs. Ray is a mechanic juggling his small business with his wife’s bodybuilding training.

The series also marks the TV directorial debut of comedy heavyweight Oscar Kightley, who also wrote the season with Sami and Thomas Sainsbury. “Madeleine's so brilliant and funny but also it was great to watch her work as a performer. I don't know if there are any other actors in New Zealand who could do what she does in Super City.” says Kightley.

Madeleine adds, “Oscar and I know each other pretty well (we’ve done a sex scene in a toilet in Sione’s Wedding 2) so I was super relaxed with him and knew had a great ear for comedy.”

See this comedic collaboration tonight on TV3 at 10pm. Sami’s AFTA award-winning performance promises to be just as biting and outlandishly funny.
