TV3 Secures Most Anticipated New US Drama Series The Blacklist in Exclusive Sony Pictures Partnership

The highly anticipated new drama series The Blacklist, starring multiple Emmy Award winning actor James Spader, will screen on TV3 as part of a new partnership between MediaWorks and Sony Pictures Television, it was announced today.

MediaWorks TV Director of Programming, Mark Caulton says: “The Blacklist created some of the biggest buzz at this year’s LA Screenings, and will be a fantastic addition to TV3’s primetime lineup.

“We are thrilled to have secured this stand-out show for our viewers, along with a number of other terrific series from Sony Pictures Television which will screen across TV3 and FOUR.”

The Sony Pictures Television deal gives MediaWorks TV exclusive New Zealand broadcast rights for some of the year’s best new television shows.

The Blacklist sees Spader play one of the world’s most wanted criminals, who mysteriously turns himself in and offers to give up some of his most notorious accomplices. His sole condition is that he will only work with a newly minted FBI agent with whom he seemingly has no connection.

Other highlights include sitcom The Michael J Fox Show; drama series Rake, starring Academy Award nominee Greg Kinnear; drama series House of Cards, starring multiple Oscar winning and Emmy nominated Kevin Spacey; and Us & Them, an American remake of the UK comedy series about long distance love, Gavin and Stacey.

Mark Young, Senior Vice President, Distribution and Sales, Australia & New Zealand for SPT says: “Sony Pictures Television offers one of the largest content libraries in the world, which includes some of the most anticipated new series of the upcoming TV season. We have worked closely with Mediaworks to bring New Zealand viewers a strong slate of programming that features award winning talent and compelling storytelling across a variety of genres.”

Some of the new Sony Pictures content is expected to screen on TV3 and FOUR later this year, with other programmes premiering as part of MediaWorks’ new season lineup in 2014.

The Blacklist
Multiple Emmy Award winning actor James Spader (Boston Legal) plays a criminal-turned-lawman who mysteriously turns himself in and offers to give up some of his most notorious accomplices on the sole condition that he only speaks to a young FBI proler fresh out of Quantico.

The Michael J Fox Show
Golden Globe and Emmy winner Michael J Fox makes his much anticipated return to television comedy as a news anchor with Parkinson’s who decides to go back to work and finds himself facing unique challenges as he juggles family and professional life.

Rake
Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine) makes his broadcast television series debut in a bold new legal drama. Kinnear plays Keegan Deane, a brilliant and frustratingly charming criminal defense attorney whose chaotic and self-destructive personal life often gets in the way of his professional one.

House of Cards
Two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey plays unscrupulous Democrat Majority Whip Frank Underwood in this political thriller based on the BBC series of the same name. House of Cards has been nominated for nine Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, Best Leading Actor (Spacey) and Best Leading Actress (Robin Wright).

Us & Them
An endearing ensemble comedy about long-distance love, Gavin (Emmy Award nominee Jason Ritter) and Stacey’s (Alexis Bledel) path to happily-ever-after is complicated by the screwed-up circus of people closest to them in this American remake of hit UK series Gavin and Stacey.
