Rolling Pin (NZ) Named NSW Provincial Horse of the Year

Karaka graduate Rolling Pin (NZ) has been named the New South Wales Provincial Horse of the Year after a stellar racing season that included two wins at stakes level.

The son of Pins came of age as a five-year-old taking out consecutive black-type victories in the Group 3 Cameron Handicap at Newcastle over 1500m before taking out the Group 2 Shannon Stakes at Rosehill.

The night was bittersweet for connections of Rolling Pin as his career was tragically cut short after running a gallant fourth placing in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes.

Trained at Kembla Grange by Gwenda Markwell and owned by Mr M B Sandblom and Mr S A Brodie, Rolling Pin won a total of eight races in his career with earnings of A$487,450.

Rolling Pin is out of the multiple stakes winner Gypsy’s Daughter (Mi Preferido), a Listed winner on both side of the Tasman.

Bred by Mrs J Hines, Rolling Pin was a $60,000 purchase by part owner Mr M B Sandlom from the draft of Lyndhurst Farm at the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale.

Winners Flow in Singapore

New Zealand Bloodstock graduates have enjoyed a successful weekend in Singapore, taking out nine races over two race meetings held at Kranji.

Friday night saw four Karaka graduates booted home on the 10 race program including Bogart (NZ), a fledgling son Darci Brahma.

Trained by Michael Freedman, Bogart started the race as favourite and took full advantage of his light weight to draw away for a decisive one-and-a-quarter-length victory. The recently turned three-year-old appears to have a bright future ahead of him after winning two of his first three starts.

Dragon Flight (Postponed) scored his first win at his second start over 1100m on the same night that experienced campaigner Ninth Avenue (Quorum) scored his seventh career victory. The consistent Cavallo (Testa Rossa) recorded his fourth race win as he broke 59 seconds for the 1000m, the four-year-old has only missed a place twice from his 12 starts to date.

Sunday night saw half of the 10 race card won by Karaka graduates.
