CYCLE FOR CHANGE:

Sarah Walker Cycles Vietnam to Raise Funds for Kiwi kids

New Zealand Olympian BMX cyclist Sarah Walker has touched down in beautiful Hanoi where she has embarked on a fundraising cycle trip through 350km of Vietnamese landscape. The trip, which is a partnership between Variety – The Children’s Charity and leading travel company World Expeditions, will raise money for Variety’s Bikes for Kids Programme.

The trip involves an 18 strong group who will explore Vietnam’s stunning scenery, meet its dynamic people and embrace the vibrant culture whilst raising funds to help disadvantaged Kiwi kids. Activities include exploring Hanoi's city and the beautiful temples of the Tran Dynasty; meeting local hill tribes; visiting an orphanage and school; and cruising on a traditional 'Junk' sail boat.

"I am really looking forward to exploring Hanoi, and visiting a local school and orphanage" said Sarah.

On Sunday 18 August, the New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam H.E Mr Haike Manning welcomed Sarah and the team in Hanoi. He said the trip was a great initiative.

“It’s great to have an ever increasing number of Kiwis coming to Vietnam to understand this wonderful country. Not only that, but during their cycle trip the group will be raising money for disadvantaged Kiwi kids,” said Ambassador Manning.

Each November, Variety’s Bikes for Kids Programme provides around 450 bikes to deserving or disadvantaged children. Many Kiwi Kids circumstances mean they miss out on this childhood experience. Being presented with a bike gives children a sense of pride, promotes inclusivity and gives them the opportunity to participate with their peers.

You can still help the cyclists fundraise!

The cyclists are actively fundraising while in Vietnam so they can help give many more Kiwi kids their very own bike, with Sarah Walker setting a personal goal of $10,000!

“It costs $200 to give an underprivileged Kiwi kid a brand new bike and make their day/week/month/year so I would love to raise enough money to give FIFTY kids a bike and put a smile on their face!” said Sarah.
