MEDIA RELEASE

History Making Adventurer Visits New Zealand

Tim Cope is the only known person to have followed in the footsteps of Genghis Khan and lived to tell the tale. Tim travelled on horseback for the 6,000 miles of the Eurasian steppe and will be recounting his amazing journey in New Zealand as well as in a new book from Bloomsbury that was released last month.

Tim is a guide for World Expeditions, the active travel company who is bringing him to New Zealand for the very first time. Tim will be speaking in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch on 14, 15 and 16 October at 6:30pm. Venue and ticket details at www.worldexpeditions.co.nz From Mongolia to Hungary, Tim will describe his remarkable journey and his very first adventure on horse back with pictures and stories of ultimate terror and joy.

Included in this history lesson of nomads and bureaucrats is how to pack for a three year adventure, and what it is like to feast on boiled pigeon. Tim will also explain that it was the kindness of strangers who helped him survive and thrive in a tortuous environment from 40 below zero temperatures to the sweltering heat of summer. All this plus learning how to ride a horse, conquer a language barrier and cross borders with three horses and a dog will be revealed.

Tim has several previous adventures under his belt while riding a recumbent bike 10,000 kilometres across Russia and Mongolia and rowing a wooden boat through Siberia to the Arctic Ocean. Tim has trained as a wilderness guide in the forest regions of Finland, The Arctic and north-west Russia.

For venue and ticket information, please visit www.worldexpeditions.co.nz.

If you would like to travel to Mongolia with Tim, please visit the World Expeditions website or call 0800 350 354 for details. Tim Cope's website is www.timcopejourneys.com.
