NZRL National Competition 2013 - Results MNF R6

Auckland, NZ, October 7, 2013 – Round six of the Pirtek National Premiership Monday night league featured two visiting teams, the Northern Swords and the Wellington Orcas. The Swords took the field supported by their U13's team, who joined them for a haka, bringing smiles to faces of the watching Orcas players. Although the Orcas were first to score through their centre Bernard Gregorious, it was the Swords who took the lead shortly after when their try to Jarom Wihongi-Henare was converted by their fullback Corey Naera, giving them a 6-4 lead.

For a while the game was played in the middle of the park with both teams making errors and turning the ball over cheaply, before the more favoured Orcas strung some passes together and scored. They went on to add two more tries including a second to Gregorious, taking a 22-6 lead at half time.

After the break the Swords were the first to score, with a second try to Wihongi-Henare, and although they defended well in patches, forcing Orcas players over the sideline on attack and working hard for each other, eventually the Orcas found some space and scored three further tries including a third to Gregorious just on the hooter. Final score 38-14 to the Orcas.

At Mt Smart Stadium:
Northern Swords: 14 J Wihongi-Henare (2), T Tipene Tries; C Naera Goal
Wellington Orcas: 38 B Gregorious (3), A Utanga, E Aloese (2), R Lesoa Tries; R McCormack (5) Goals
Half time: 6-22
Referee: Dwayne Hibbs
