Tempo Presents ‘Out Of The Box’ 3

Tempo Dance Festival: 10th Anniversary kicked off at Q Theatre last week with a programme that boasts some of the best of New Zealand Dance from both established and upcoming choreographers and performers. One of the highlights of the two week programme will be the Out Of The Box 3 showcase featuring recent silver medallists from the World Hip Hop Championships, IDentity Dance Crew.

IDentity Dance Crew have just finished touring New Zealand high schools with the Primal Youth ‘UNDEFEATED’ teen suicide prevention campaign empowering young people to overcome their struggles by asking for help. The crew have also received a positive response on TV 1 ‘New Zealand’s Got Talent.

Members of IDentity are involved as dancers and choreographers in “Out Of The Box” which is an annual highlight of the Tempo Dance Festival, Out Of The Box 3 melds street dance with other dance genres and contemporary processes to showcase a new aesthetic.

“It’s hip hop with attitude! It culminates a range of performances that still have the excitement and skill you would expect from Aotearoa’s finest street dancers, but also brings a new perspective to a dance form that has gained New Zealand international recognition,” says Out Of The Box co-producer Jacqui Cesan.

Out Of The Box choreographers for 2013 include the likes of Joe Ling, Andrew Jones, The Cesan Brothers, Simon Watts, Allister Salaivao and Hopskotch Company return with new works, plus hot new up and coming choreographers ready to challenge perceptions of Hip Hop Dance.

Out Of The Box closes this year’s Tempo Dance Festival programme with a powerful collection of the latest and greatest in hip hop dance.

A special addition this year will be IDentity Dance Crews website launch of identitydancecrew.com in the Q Theatre Loft 7:45 – 8:15pm on Saturday 19 October.

Out Of The Box 3 plays as part of Tempo Dance Festival 2013 showing at Q Theatre 19 October at 6:30pm & 20 October at 8:30pm. The show is 60 minutes in duration. Tickets range from $15-35. Book now!
