Fashion at fever PITCH at The Tannery

Pitch, one of the city’s most exciting runway shows, has found a new home at one of the city’s most exciting new retail precincts, organisers have just announced.

The CPIT showcase of emerging designer’s creations will be the first event in the brand new section of The Tannery in Woolston with two shows on 23 November at 6pm and 8.30pm. The event is one of the highlights of CPIT’s Creative Festival from 12 November to 2 December.

As always, fashion industry insiders will be watching the collections of the final year Fashion Technology and Design students very closely; some with an eye on talented technicians and some looking for fresh fashion trends.
CPIT’s School of Fashion is not giving too much away before the models strut down the catwalk under the bright lights. “There will be bold colour in some collections,” fashion tutor Nathan Ingram says. “But also some monochromatic collections too.”

The final year students are not the only ones under pressure. Second year students produce six outfits and first year students hit the catwalk running with two outfits each.

“The challenges we give our students closely replicate industry conditions. It’s a fast-paced, ever-changing industry and our job is to make sure our students are ready for it with the technical skills and experience that allows them to fit into workrooms here in New Zealand and overseas,” Fashion programme leader Niki Chrisp says.

Previous graduates include Westpac Young Designer winners Georgia Currie, who recently launched her Georgia Alice label, and Jess Britten. CPIT students always shine at the Hokonui Fashion Awards, with four places this year and beyond the prizes, many graduates are working for fashion houses in New Zealand, Australia and Europe.

The first stage of the Tannery development, adjacent to popular bar/restaurant The Brewery, has attracted former High Street boutiques such as Where the Fox Lives.
