Auckland Aces will have Martin Guptill

MEDIA RELEASE
Monday, 11 November 2013

The Auckland Aces will have the considerable talents of Martin Guptill to call on as they face the Canterbury Wizards in the second round of the Plunket Shield starting on the Eden Park Outer Oval from tomorrow.

Guptill and Michael Bates are the two new names in the 12 named for tomorrow's game.

Both men are making their way back from injuries but will be very useful additions to a side that secured a draw in their first round clash with the Knights in Hamilton.

That match provided plenty for Aces Coach Matt Horne to feel pleased about but also gave him some things he'd like to see worked on.

"It was a good solid start really. We put together some really good sessions but had to battle pretty hard at times, so it was good to see us react and make sure we got the draw."

He's also keen to get out on home turf and hoping for more of the same from the Eden Park groundsmen.

"Last year we played on some fantastic strips out here and it made for really good cricket. We're sure that the guys will produce the same kind of quality this season and we want to make the most of them by getting a result whenever we can."

A playing eleven will be chosen from the following players:

Dean Bartlett (Ellerslie)
Michael Bates (Suburbs New Lynn)
Craig Cachopa (Takapuna)
Colin de Grandhomme (Howick Pakuranga)
Donovan Grobbelaar (Howick Pakuranga)
Martin Guptill (Suburbs New Lynn)
Gareth Hopkins (Captain) (Parnell)
Anaru Kitchen (Waitakere City)
Bruce Martin (Parnell)
Tim McIntosh (Parnell)
Jeet Raval (Suburbs New Lynn)
Matt Quinn (Cornwall)
