The Great Museum Santa Search is back

Families of all ages and nationalities will be taking part in Canterbury Museum’s Great Museum Santa Search this year, much to the delight of Museum staff who say the event has become a special tradition in Christchurch.

The annual event begins on Saturday 30 November and has already brought many families back to the Museum just to take part.

“Every year we see familiar faces taking part in the competition,” says Canterbury Museum’s Education Communicator Anthony Hennig.

“Visitors from as far away as Australia are also making sure they visit the Museum and enter the Santa Search competition. The event really is becoming a Christmas tradition in Christchurch for some families - both local and from overseas.”

The Santa Search has been running for more than ten years and grows in popularity every year. Mr Hennig says this year’s competition is better than ever.

“As always the Santas have found new places to hide – they are never in the same place twice,” Mr Hennig says.

“It will definitely be a fun-filled activity to do with the kids leading up to Christmas and into the New Year. Be sure to allow one to two hours so you can have a really good look and enjoy the Museum exhibits as you go,” says Mr Hennig.

As for some inside advice that might make the hunt easier, Mr Hennig says to keep your eyes open. “Santa has hidden himself in some tricky places this year, so make sure you look high and low throughout the Museum.”

To enter the competition, count the Santa’s you find, fill in an entry form and post it in the box provided in the Museum foyer. The first correct entry drawn after 5 January 2014 will win a great prize.
