Heineken Open Full Field: 5 players in the world top 20

Heineken Open Full Field welcomes five players in the world's top 20, plus Philipp Kohlschreiber, Benoit Paire and wildcard Marcos Baghdatis

The NZ Festival of Tennis is excited to announce the Heineken Open Full Field, which includes a four-- time Heineken Open Champion, five players ranked inside the world’s top 20 and a cut--off of 65, making it one of the most highly anticipated Heineken Open fields in recent memory.

Joining the already announced world number 3, David Ferrer, Tommy Haas (12), John Isner (14), Kevin Anderson (20) and Gael Monfils (31); will be Tommy Robredo (18), Philipp Kohlschreiber (22), Benoit Paire (26) and a thrilling wildcard entry in the form of Marcos Baghdatis (87).

Spanish ace Tommy Robredo, who has featured at the tournament on three previous occasions, joins the field after a year which saw him reach the Quarter Finals of the French and US Opens, as well as the third round at Wimbledon.

His quarter--final result at the French showcased his steely determination, making history by becoming the first man since Henri Cochet in 1927 to win three consecutive Grand Slam matches from two sets to love down.

Joining Robredo will be Marcos Baghdatis.

The Cypriot, a Junior Grand Slam winner and finalist at the Australian Open in 2006, enjoys a loyal fan base around the world due to his high--energy and passionate personality.

Kolschreiber returns in an attempt to go one better following his appearance in the final again in 2013 where he lost narrowly to David Ferrer.

“To have a field featuring five players in the world’s top 20 is an outstanding success,” says Tournament Director, Karl Budge.

“The addition of Marcos Baghdatis joining Frenchman Gael Monfils means we will have two of the best entertainers in world tennis headlining our Monday and Tuesday sessions”.

Full Field announcements join already announced players David Ferrer, John Isner, Gael Monfils, Kevin Anderson, and Tommy Haas.

The 2014 Heineken Open runs from January 6 – 11, 2014 Tickets are available from Ticketek www.festivaloftennis.co.nz As well as centre court tickets – the NZ Festival of Tennis has introduced the all--new Ground Pass, for just $15.

The Ground Pass lets fans watch every match live on a giant screen at the Heineken Baseline Live--site throughout the tournaments, along with daily music performances, entertainment offerings, and premium dining.

All centre court matches for the Heineken Open will be screened live on SKY TV from the scheduled start of play at midday.
