Taunton Terrace Community Garden receives donation

In today’s age of processed food and excess packaging, people are losing sight of where food really comes from.
Ask a child where the content of their lunchbox originated and they may well respond “the supermarket”.
It’s something the Taunton Terrace Community Garden aims to change with the help of the Harcourts Foundation.
The Taunton Terrace Community Garden teaches people how to grow their own fresh seasonal food in a vibrant community garden and orchard near Blockhouse Bay Beach.
The Harcourts Foundation has granted $2000 to purchase water tanks and equipment for the project.
Garden coordinator Olwyn Gillespie says it is quite shocking how many children are unable to identify different types of fruits and vegetables because they are only exposed to packaged, processed food.
The community garden allows people to gain hands-on experience and a better understanding of how to grow organic, whole foods.
Harcourts Blue Fern owner Phil Freeman says it’s a fantastic community initiative that many people will benefit from, and Harcourts is proud to be able to contribute through the Harcourts Foundation.
