Rapture Auckland 2014 Update

MEDIA RELEASE: 2nd February 2014

DAINTY GROUP regrets to advise that Kendrick Lamar is no longer able to perform at Eminem's Auckland concert on Saturday 15 February due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict.

But DAINTY GROUP is very excited to announce his replacement on the Auckland event, another trail-blazing hip-hop act from Los Angeles - ODD FUTURE -
also known as Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All or OFWGKTA.  Their Auckland show supporting Eminem will feature founding member Tyler, The Creator
who will be joined by fellow rappers Hodgy BeatsDomo GenesisLeft BrainMike G and Taco Bennett.  Fans can expect an exceptional performance
of sparse beats and electric rhymes delivered with the passionate energy and youthful exuberance that ODD FUTURE is renowned for.

Kendrick Lamar explains:  "New Zealand!  Sorry I'm missing you this time, but the homies, ODD FUTURE will kill it for you and I'm excited for Australia this month."

Promoter Paul Dainty says: "The good news is that we’ve been able to sub-in another killer LA hip hop act - ODD FUTURE. Also just added to the line-up is
one of Australia's finest - 360 - so it's now a huge bill for Rapture Auckland.  And Kendrick will definitely be joining us for the Rapture Australia shows
in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.”

ARIA Award winner 360 broke through with a platinum-selling album Falling And Flying, and hit singles including ‘Boys Like You’, telling true tales from familiar streets
without pretending or posturing.  This hugely popular Melbourne artist continues to notch up an army of fans while garnering musical accolades and praise.
His hook-laden tunes offer the listener a no-holds-barred, cross-genre assault - all delivered in Sixty's forthright, unique and truly relatable manner.

Meanwhile the countdown to EMINEM’s first ever New Zealand show continues on, with just 13 days left before Auckland’s Western Springs Stadium
transforms its speedway into a spectacular hip hop event of proportions never seen here before!

Kendrick Lamar will perform on all Rapture Australian dates including Melbourne (19 February), Brisbane (20 February) and Sydney (22 February).

Gordon Campbell: On Chuck Berry (And James Comey, And Bill English)

Back when many people were still treating rock’n’roll as a passing fad – was calypso going to be the new thing? – Chuck Berry knew that it had changed popular music forever. What is even more astonishing is that this 30-ish black r&b musician from a middle class family in St Louis could manage to recreate the world of white teenagers, at a time when the very notion of a “teenager” had just been invented. The Baroque Fusion Of L'arpeggiata

Named after a toccata by German composer Girolamo Kapsberger, L'Arpeggiata produces its unmistakable sonority mainly from the resonance of plucked strings, creating a tightly-woven acoustic texture that is both idiosyncratic and immediately identifiable. Director Christina Pluhar engenders this distinctive tonality associated with the ensemble she founded in 2000 by inviting musicians and vocalists from around the world to collaborate on specific projects illuminated by her musicological research. Scoop Review Of Books: We’re All Lab Rats

A couple of years ago, there were reports that Silicon Valley executives were sending their children to tech-free schools. It was a story that dripped of irony: geeks in the heart of techno-utopia rejecting their ideology when it came to their own kids. But the story didn’t catch on, and an awkward question lingered. Why were the engineers of the future desperate to part their gadgets from their children? More>>
