Exhibition: Never-Before-Seen Photographs of Marilyn Monroe

19 February 2014

‘Marilyn’ The Exhibition
Featuring Never-Before-Seen Photographs of Legendary Star Marilyn Monroe

Exhibitions Gallery of Fine Art launches a major landmark exhibition and sale of rare including never-before-seen in New Zealand original photographs of legendary star Marilyn Monroe, on Tuesday 25 February at 6pm.

The exhibition will tour guests through the world’s most in-depth collection of Marilyn Monroe photographs, spanning her entire career from the very first pictures taken of her in 1945, to the very last taken in 1962.

While some images have been published and make up some of the most iconic images of the star, many of the remaining photos have never been exhibited, or made available for sale.

‘Marilyn’ The Exhibition will feature photographs from internationally renowned photographer Bert Stern. Seen in the 2011 documentary ‘Bert Stern - The Original Mad Man’, Bert passed away in June last year at the age of 83. Photographs from the personal collection of George Barris, the last photographer to take pictures of Marilyn before she died, are also featured.

This remarkable collection will feature some of those remaining photographs. Appearing nude and semi-nude, these portraits, un-retouched from the original camera negatives, are some of the most revealing and seductively powerful images ever captured of Marilyn. Once sold, these one-of a-kind-photographs will not be seen again.

Ronald Epskamp, Director of Exhibitions Gallery of Fine Art says “When I first got offered the opportunity to curate the show I wasn’t interested, but after being persuaded to view the exhibition in Sydney I was immediately blown away.

I love the honesty of the photography and I now understand how Marilyn’s legacy continues. The photographers, who knew Marilyn, have captured the real essence of who she was and not just the way she was portrayed in the media.”

‘Marilyn’ The Exhibition opens 25 February 2014, 6-8pm
Concludes 5 April 2014
Exhibitions Gallery of Fine Art, 19A Osborne Street, Newmarket 1023, Auckland
Hours 10.30am – 4.30pm
