Wild Card Adds Spice to Super 8 Line Up

SUPER 8 / SUPER FIGHT NIGHT
PRESS RELEASE:

WILD CARD ADDS SPICE TO SUPER 8 LINE UP

BACKING up the enormous success of June’s SUPER 8 heavyweight wildcards, SUPER 8, SUPER FIGHT NIGHT will feature two wild cards for the SUPER 8 Cruiserweight Last Man Standing tournament, on the under card of the Shane Cameron vs Kali Meehan heavyweight stoush at the North Shore Event’s Centre onNovember 22.

In the inaugural tournament, Auckland kick-boxer Antz Nansen, turned on a thrilling performance to outpoint former Lineal World Champion Hasim Rahman and LA based Brice Ritani Coe upset heavily favoured US fighter Alonso Butler. Both continued their form into the semi finals, taking their opponents the full distance in torrid bouts.

SUPER 8 match maker Mark Keddell see’s no reason why the cruiserweight version, headlined by former world number 10 and Commonwealth Games Gold medalist Brad Pitt, can’t do the same.

“We’re looking for stand up fighters with X factor skills, power and the mentality to upset the apple cart.”

“SUPER 8, is about delivering great entertainment through matching up exciting fighting styles, and we want fighters who fit that bill and can challenge for the $150,000 prize pool.”

“If you are a fighter with genuine X factor and believe you have the skills to perform in the SUPER 8 cauldron – we want to hear from you, convince us why we should include you in the SUPER 8.”

The two wild cards, one a New Zealand fighter, the other an overseas fighter will be announced on October 31st.

SKY ARENA boxing commentator, Mike Angove believes, tournament style format offers the perfect venue for a talented fighter showcase their skills in the short format.

“Three round bouts are ideal for a slick or powerful fighter to show case his skills, there’s no room for error and very little time to adjust to unorthodoxy."

“The format enables raw talent to ambush more experienced fighters used to the longer duration, which adds to the sense of intrigue and anticipation that ‘any thing could happen.”
