Christchurch fringe Fringe
Programme
13-31 October 2014
Ffringe Off
Faffing From The Fab Four Collective
We set out on this bizarre journey ill equipped, without a map or any clues. Worse still we couldn’t count and The Fab Four started as three but then at last count there were nine of us.
The goal: have fun. Later someone suggested organising a Fringe Festival as well. So we have, although we’re the fringe of a Fringe. It’s not been without drama; we’re full of it. Christy (El Chiquita) stepped up as Administration Guru. She was so incredibly good she made the rest of us look bad so we exiled her to Disney Cruises (true story). The other ... eight? ... out of four of us have been hit and miss; but Chiquitita doesn't mind too much. Benjamin Giraffe, did maintain a good overview.
One objective we thought we’d add to make ourselves look good: provide a foundation for easily accessible alternative performance and entertainment in Christchurch. So there’s music, comedy, dancing, film, body painting, poetry, workshops, theatre and even a type of carnival.
So yeah- that’ll be it. Enjoy.
We’re gonna do it again next year as well.

Marx In SoHo
Karl Marx is
back! Featuring the big man himself, Marx in Soho is Howard
Zinn's "play on history”. After agitating his way out of
the afterlife for a chance to “clear his name”, Marx is
ready to let rip, and flies between stories of his family,
his contemporaries, his theories and his thoughts on
today’s world.

James Nokise: So-So
Gangsta
Blending a mix of personal stories, research,
and current affairs, So-so Gangstais an oddly
in-depth and comedic look at both Gangs and the perception
of Gangs in the relatively un-gangsta New Zealand. When the
most publicised gang of the past decade was a bunch of
teenagers in yellow t-shirts, and the most notorious have
their strongholds in Whanganui and Wairoa… things might
not be as a bad as they seem.
New Zealand's favourite
(and only) Samoan/Welsh stand-up comic, James Nokise is the
first Pacific Islander to work fulltime on the United
Kingdom stand-up comedy circuit.

Comedy - Stand up
Thane Pullan
has been a comedian who likes to shock people for years,
only now he has a stage. Known as grumpy cripple on
Facebook, his humour lives up to his name with a certain
morbid cheek to it.
After successful TV appearances and
on his way to the Laugh Festival Thane has got delayed by
road works, and is using Fringe to raise money for his
journey to perform in Auckland. He doesn’t want your
pity: money is far more useful.

Monsieur Le
President
Filmed over three years in the aftermath of the
2010 Haitian earthquake, Monsieur le Président follows the
ascension and confusing downfall of Gaston Jean Edy. The
talented American filmmaker Victoria Campbell enters Haiti
just days after the earthquake with a camera and a small bag
of medical supplies. There she meets Gaston, a well-beloved
voodoo priest in the Christ-Roi section of Port-au-Prince,
who, with nothing but hustle and hope, revives a defunct
neighbourhood clinic and staffs it with a doctor and nurses.
Gaston is a local hero, and the filmmaker works closely with
him, but as their friendship grows, the story takes a
sinister turn.
This is a gripping award winning
documentary, created by a talented filmmaker with strong New
Zealand connections.

Directed by Lana Walters
_You know our names, youve watched us since we were born, you know who we invited to our 11th birthday parties and who our first boyfriends were. Every intimate detail. Well, we’ve had enough.
TomKat and Branges Little Princesses are all grown up now, and they are speaking out for the first time, to you, Fringe 2014. Under the watchful eye of the world, they have lived a life imagined for them, by you, with a little help from Women’s Day. Brought to you by Auckland’s We Are Sailors, written and performed by Susannah Smith-Roy and Phoebe Borwick (Suri and Shiloh had security clearance issues with getting to NZ themselves, so have employed body doubles. The rich and famous can do that.) Suri and Shiloh are angry, Prada-wearing 18-year olds.
Do not stop watching. Give them your fullest attention. Unless you do, they will cease to be, Suri and Shiloh.
All the way from Auckland having been in both Auckland and Wellington Fringe Festivals.
