Villa Maria Wines Takes Top Chardonnay Trophy

Villa Maria Wines Takes Top Chardonnay Trophy in Six Nations Wine Challenge

Last night in Sydney, New Zealand’s most awarded winery, Villa Maria, collected Champion trophy for their Single Vineyard Keltern Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2012 at the Six Nations Wine Challenge Awards dinner.

Villa Maria’s General Manager of Winemaking Alastair Maling MW commented, “Villa Maria has been very passionate about Chardonnay for a long time. It’s a variety we love and New Zealand makes some of the best.

To win the Six Nations Chardonnay trophy is a very proud of achievement.” said Maling “The Single Vineyard Keltern Chardonnay consistently produces outstanding Chardonnay from one of our top Hawkes Bay vineyards.”

To accompany Villa Maria’s Trophy was a double gold medal for Villa Maria’s Single Vineyard Taylors Pass Chardonnay 2012 and a gold each for the Villa Maria Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2010 and Reserve Wairau Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2013.

Villa Maria’s awards for their four distinct wines come from a balance of the famous Marlborough and Hawkes Bay wine regions.

The Six Nations Wine Challenge includes wines from Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA. It is the only wine show in the world that is invitation only by the six judges, one representing each nation.

Villa Maria’s Keltern Vineyard is highly revered for producing top Chardonnay, it sits on an ancient river bed, outside Hastings and the warm dry climate, makes it perfect conditions for Chardonnay. Villa Maria has had a continual run of success with their Chardonnay, from Hawkes Bay, Marlborough, Gisborne and the Ihumatao Vineyard in Auckland.
