Jackie Thomas lined up for Napier Christmas at the Park

New Zealand’s first ever X–Factor series winner, Jackie Thomas, is the headline act at this year’s Cox Partners Christmas at the Park in Napier.

Thomas, who won the series in July 2013, had a number one debuted single “It’s Worth It” immediately after her series win. The single was certified Gold in its first week and Platinum in its third week. Soon after, her self-titled debut album also debuted at number one.

“Jackie has a fantastic voice and is sure to be a crowd pleaser,” says Christmas at the Park organizer David Trim.

“She’ll also be singing a number of Christmas carols throughout her sixty minute repertoire, which will lend themselves perfectly to her musical style.”

This year’s Cox Partners Christmas at the Park will be held on Saturday 13 December at Anderson Park, Napier. Last year, the event attracted around 25,000 people.

“Logistically and financially it is a huge undertaking to run this event. The budget is $95,000 and with no ticket or alcohol sales to help with the costs, we must rally our local businesses and supporting trusts to share the financial burden,” says David.

“We are fortunate to have so many businesses that agree this is a great community event and sponsor us to ensure Christmas at the Park remains alive.”

Two hundred volunteers are required to produce and run the night, with many community groups like Rotary, Lions, churches and schools all adding to the experience.

The Anderson Park event is the only free Christmas concert of its size in Hawkes Bay and David is adamant in keeping it free to enter.

“It’s a great way for people of all walks of life to gather together and celebrate Christmas as a community. It’s a rare opportunity to see a nationally recognised artist in a wonderful park setting for free,” says David.

Cox Partners Christmas at the Park will also feature Christmas carols, and the unique pyrotechnics display, which has become one of the most popular parts of the event.
