Touring Tales 2014

Cape Road Touring & Not Even Productions present: Touring Tales 2014 - Mel Parsons & James Nokise

An evening of Music & Comedy

Kiwi singer/songwriter Mel Parsons and award winning comedian James Nokise present a fantastic night of comedy and music with a one-off pop-up gig this Sunday 2nd November at the Vaudevillian Clubhouse, Left Bank off Cuba Street.

Two-time Tui Award finalist Mel Parsons, and 2014 VAC Reiley Comedy Award winner James Nokise, have just completed a 25-date tour of their music & comedy double bill show from the tip to tail of New Zealand over the past 5 weeks.

With a short break from the road, Parsons is currently working on a new album, while Nokise has been collecting stories for his next Comedy Festival Show. The pair return with a pop-up show for Wellingtonians to come and see this material for the first time.

Parsons will be joined by multi-instrumentalist and session guitarist Gerry Paul, founding member of much-loved Irish touring act ‘Gráda’, and a star in his own right, who tours internationally with Grammy Award winner Tim O’Brien, Sharon Shannon and many more.

A raft of positive reviews proved the unconventional double bill a winner, with some audiences initially unsure of what to make of the pairing – Nokise is known for comedy on gangs and politics, while Parsons is known for acoustic folk, country, and pop music.

“Essentially, combined, we're a New Zealand Taylor Swift” Nokise explains. “We wanted to share the madness with Wellington before going our separate ways. Honestly, this show is sort of a homage to us surviving five weeks on the road together”

Nokise says Gerry's “affable nature” is the basis for most of their adventures: “We'd meet Gang Members in Invercargill and be fine, but then almost get killed in Barrytown for being picky over coffee”.

Parsons and Nokise both head out again next week to Christchurch and Auckland respectively, while Paul will be performing this Saturday at Civic Square.
