Current shows at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts

Current shows at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts

Jambalaya - a diverse “soup” of senior artists from the Academy including current president Greg Chaston, past president Ian Hamlin, elected artist member Suzanne Herschell and freelance artist Pania Molloy. Jambalaya is an exhibition that celebrates and examines the mix and diversity between the four artists reflecting on luminosity, the beauty in junk, textural variation and Tango.

The second show, GASP! Give Artists Space! has provided emerging mainly younger artists from Wellington with the opportunity to develop their skills and practise. They were given complete artistic control, taught to handle, curate, critique, price and market their work and the show. Some established artists from Christchurch have also been included in the show. The gallery donated the space to the artists to provide this opportunity to develop their skills.

It is quite serendipitous to have the senior artists in support of those emerging.

These shows are on as Jambalaya 23 October to 5 November and GASP! 20 October to 7 November and entry is free.
