HAURAKI HORROR

HAURAKI HORROR

The Basement Theatre’s 6th Annual Christmas Show
Written by Thomas Sainsbury and Chris Parker
Directed by Rachel House

It’s going to be one hull of a murder mystery at The Basement Theatre this December, as the 6th Annual Christmas Show HAURAKI HORROR sets sail from 4 – 20 December. Featuring a revolving cabin crew of Kiwi telly and theatre celebs; Amanda Billing, Guy Montgomery, Shavaughn Ruakere, Kimberley Crossman, Rose Matafeo, Michael Hurst and over 30 others, this year’s festive tale has plotted its course to be the best whodunit this side of the Tamaki Channel!

Tom and Chris are two hapless wannabe papparozzos and celebrity scandal reporters. Unfortunately, and understandably, this kind of work is pretty slim in New Zealand these days. Their fortunes change, however, when Tom is invited to a Christmas Cruise in the Hauraki Harbour, hosted by notorious New Zealand playboy entrepreneur, Dick Rancid. Tom smuggles Chris on in his camera bag and suddenly they’re smack bang amongst Auckland’s elite. But things take a sudden turn when there is a black out during Dick’s lascivious welcome speech. When the lights return our hapless heroes discover Dick has been harpooned. To Death!

Chris, seeing the perfect opportunity for an inside scoop, sets about solving who killed Dick Rancid. He decides to use his journalistic know-how to work out the killer. He and Tom make their way around the boat, interviewing various celebrities ranging from Sally Ridge and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to Kelly Tarlton, Jason Gunn and even Thingee. Every celeb has their motives and their wishy-washy alibis. It’s gonna take a whole lotta clue-solving, fishy puns and an appearance by Poseidon himself to solve this grisly murder mystery.

Written by top comedy talent Tom Sainsbury (SuperCity) and Chris Parker (SNORT) under the director of the incomparable Rachel House (The Dark Horse, Eagle vs Shark), this year’s Basement Christmas show is a sure fire way to kick start the festive season.

But wait, there’s (always) more when it comes to the silly season at The Basement! This year, to make the cruise experience all the more genuine, the entire set will be made fromreal boat parts and punters will have the option to BYO 3D glasses for a “full reality immersion”!

Be sure to make Hauraki Horror the first stop on your Advent calendar, and book early as the season sells out every year!
