Gold for Guthrie in PGP at Carterton

Gold for Guthrie in PGP at Carterton

It was double clear all the way for Shanae McKay and Guthrie, who took the top honours in the Pony Grand Prix today at the Wairarapa A and P Show in Carterton.

The youngster from Levin was the only one of the 17 starters to notch a double clear. Just four came through to the jump-off over the Gary Sinclair (Levin) designed course. Second-placed Matt Irvine (Takapau) and Fun House took a rail in the second round but stopped the clock at 41.61 seconds, while Lucy McHugh (Gisborne) on Hawai Haka and Will Moffett (Hawke’s Bay) on Utu had two apiece in 46.91 and 51.68 respectively.

In the Country TV Horse Grand Prix Lucy Akers (Opiki) and Letitbe headed home the four faulters in the jump-off to take the win in 49.27 seconds.

Claire Wilson (Waipukurau) was second aboard McMillans Tipsey and third on McMillans Claremont.

Sunday’s jumping brought to a close three days of excellent competition at the Clareville Showgrounds in Carterton. Entries were good at the show, and while the wind certainly made its presence felt, it didn’t deter some great competition.
