Hitchhiking with a fridge part 2

Rob Cope is on a mission once more… with his Fridge

Last year’s fridge tour to promote his first book “Men Wanted for Hazardous Journey” got some great publicity but it wasn’t until his TEDx talk in Wanaka earlier this year that he told the story behind the story, one which saw his marriage of nearly twenty years ending and the fridge tour as much as to promote his book was equally about as he says “doing something mental in order to stay sane”

Robs book was an insightful look into Kiwi man culture and some of the unspoken rules of manhood many men live by and where these rules have led of us.

Not content to just write about it without actually doing something to help “fix it” he is also the founder of Project Wildman which he describes as a “structure and environment to break the man-code and get guys talking” – “It’s not macho to talk about the real stuff in life and so we don’t” he says “We tend to point at anger, depression, anxiety, alcohol and drugs as the problem but they’re not the problem they’re the solution so what’s the problem? We won’t get to the bottom of it if we don’t start talking”

The goal of the Fridge Tour part 2 is a charity fundraiser for Project Wildman. Wildman is already running in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch and he aims to set up in four more cities in early 2015.
