Ysoe Overcomes Injury to Tackle Silver Fern Rally

There was a point prior to this year's epay Silver Fern Rally that British driver Simon Tysoe thought he may have to ring the organisers and pull out. Just three weeks before the event while working with machinery Tysoe took the tip off a finger. An image of the bloodied and mangled finger is stored away on his smartphone and the finger is protected by a sheath as he faces eight days of intense high speed competition over 1150 kilometres of Special Stages.

However it does not appear to be slowing him down. Tysoe currently sits fourth in the event, picking up a spot late on Day 3 when Irish driver Frank Cunningham left the road in the final stage. Tysoe says the finger does play up a bit, particularly on the faster, rougher stages.

However despite his injury the rest of the rally has been going well for the Leicester driver. "It's been excellent, we have had absolutely no problems," said Tysoe at the Service Park at the end of the day in Christchurch yesterday. However he did admit the thought crossed his mind when he damaged the finger that he may have to make the call to pull out of the event. That would have been a tough call to make as Simon was the first international entry and stated his intention to compete prior to Christmas last year. At the time he sad he had been unable to come to New Zealand for the 2012 event and was counting the days until the 2014 edition.

Despite a crash in the 2010 event his previous expereinces of the Silver Fern have left him enthusistic about the rally, the country and it's people, a sentiment shared by all of the international entrants on the event.
