Guinness World Record up for Grabs for Waterslide Fundraiser
Guinness World Record up for Grabs for Top Waterslide Fundraiser
Fancy yourself as a fundraising legend?
Feel like doing something awesome to help New Zealanders
battling mental health? Kiwi charity, Live More Awesome, are
offering a slippery incentive to take a free ride on their
World’s Biggest Waterslide 2.0 – 500 tickets to the 500
biggest fundraisers as well as a Guinness World Record in
the winner’s name.
After securing initial funds to build the slide courtesy of public ticket sales and a $50,000 donation from Kiwi businessman and entrepreneur, Eric Watson, the focus for the charity is now on raising funds to support their three core initiatives – a ‘Gratitude in Schools’ programme, an ‘Ask For Help’ directory and an ‘Awesome Audit of businesses. All designed to combat mental illness in New Zealand.
“We’re officially in the slide building stage and its bloody exciting,” says Live More Awesome co-founder Jimi Hunt. “Thanks to the money so far, it’s really going to happen and once again, it’s going to get people talking about mental health issues.
“Now our attention has shifted to raising funds to truly help New Zealanders deal with mental illness. We have three core initiatives that desperately need funding to bring them to life so we need some help.”
The World’s Biggest Waterslide 2.0 will take place on a picturesque West Auckland slope near Bethells Beach on March 28th and 29th 2015. To fundraise for a waterslide ticket visit www.worldsbiggestwaterslide.com to sign up. Additional incentives will be offered to participants along the way but perhaps the most inspiring is the chance to have a Guinness World Record in your own name as the first person to officially ride the World’s Biggest Waterslide 2.0.
“You won’t believe how many people are excited by the possibility,” says Hunt. “We’re so happy to make it happen for someone but even more excited at the prospect of delivering some actual results with our initiatives.
“So yeah, from the bottom of our heart, please support us. You get rewarded with an awesome day out on a giant waterslide and we get some money to help us achieve our goals and hopefully help reverse the scary increase in mental health in this country.”
According to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, 1 in 5 New Zealanders will suffer from a mental health condition in a given year. This is a reported statistic although with the stigma associated with mental illness the real numbers are thought to be much higher.
