2014 Christmas Proms

Orewa’s Centrestage Theatre debuts a concert with a difference when Auckland’s champions, North Shore Brass presents “Christmas Proms” on Saturday 29 November, 2014.

“It’s a bit of traditional Christmas fare, including our very own panto, laced with the great fun of a last night at the Proms,” says North Shore Brass Musical Director, Colin Clark.

The Band joins forces with Kiwi vocalist Rebecca Nelson, fresh from recording her latest CD, and national cornet champion Matthew Stein, recently returned from a tour to China and South Korea with the National Brass Band of New Zealand.

Rebecca features in an ANZAC tribute as well as Proms standards and seasonal favourites. Matthew turns his virtuosity to popular tunes and technically stunning arrangements.

The concert is the latest initiative from the Band’s talented young conductor. Colin is principal trumpet of the Royal New Zealand Navy Band, and has received commendations for his concert staging as well as winning multiple championships on the soprano cornet. Rebecca joined the Band as a reservist in late 2013, and sang with the combined forces band at Gallipoli on Anzac Day this year. Whilst on tour with the Navy Band in 2014, she and Colin began thinking about programming a concert such as the Proms.

“Rebecca’s style and flair suits the rich timbre of a brass band,” says Colin. “We are delighted she is joining us for such a special event.”
