Aucklanders of many faiths gathering to honour Mother Teresa

Aucklanders of many faiths gathering to honour Mother Teresa

The Mother Teresa Inter Faith Committee invites everyone to honour one of the 20th century’s greatest figures, Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Among those on the committee are representatives of the Hindu, Muslim, Buddhists, Christians, Sikhs and Zoroastrians communities from around the Auckland region to promote “Love and Peace” which were the guiding principles of Mother Teresa’s life.

One of the reasons for the initiative is that Mother reached out to everyone irrespective of faith and community and there was a need to come together as one body to pay tribute to her. In words echoing those of the other members of the committee Wenceslaus Anthony said that Mother Teresa’s love and compassion, crossing all boundaries, knew no bounds “Her humble and dedicated care of the dying, the unwanted, the lonely and those who were desperately poor is legendary and is a legacy that continues to this day,” he said.

The guest of honour this year is Hon.Peseta Sam Lotu- liga, Minister for Ethnic Communities. The Indian High Commissioner H.E. Mr Ravi Thapar will light the lamp and the function is being hosted by Catholic Bishop of Auckland, Most Rev Patrick Dunn. Mother Teresa sisters in Auckland will be taking part in this very special event. There will be songs, skit, bhajans and hymns along with representatives of various faith taking part in the event.

The Function is open to the public and we invite both the Print and Electronic Media to come and cover this important event to keep Mother Teresa memory alive and follow her path to make this world a peaceful and joyful place for everyone.

The event will commence at 2.00 pm and will conclude at 3.15 pm.
