A team of 30 key members from Fletcher Building, part of their Leaders Edge group, have selected the High Tech Youth Network to be the recipient charity for a Christmas Charity Trademe Auction from the 28th November - 5th December.

There are over 30 auction items with most listed at $1, including brand new Iphone 6 cellphones, a trip to Melbourne for the Australian Tennis Open. Wine Tastings and Signed shirts from Lisa Carrington and Cameron Brown.

Money is being raised for the new High Tech Youth Studio and Academy at One Tree Hill College. This is the latest site set for development by the High Tech Youth Network to offer vocational and education pathways for students into high-performance digital learning and training.

Richard Messinger, Contract Manager Melanesia –South Pacific, says Fletcher Building’s support in the High Tech Youth Network is part of a wider commitment to building a more connected New Zealand, in which all New Zealanders have the opportunity to reach their full potential and Fletcher’s is proud of this commitment.

“Working closely with the High Tech Youth Network on the building plans for this project gave us a close insight into the impact it will have on youth and the community. Through this auction, we want to raise money for the interior fit out of the High Tech Youth Studio and Academy and help bridge the gap between business and communities, as well asaddress the technology gap to ensure access, skills, and opportunities.”

There are currently ten High Tech Youth Studios in the network, located in West Auckland, two in Manukau City, Hamilton, Tauranga, Moerewa (Northland), Whakatane, Dunedin, Lami, Fiji and Hawaii.

The studios target young people aged 8 – 25 years in underserved communities, providing industry related secondary and tertiary credentialing, as well as workplace internships and mentoring of young people in the High-Tech and Digital Media industry.At the studios, they learn project management and technical skills such as computer game design, electronic publishing, Photoshop, animation, and 3D graphic design.

High Tech Youth Network (HTYN) was established in 2004 as a not-for-profit and is an inter-connected network of studios and communities in New Zealand and across the Pacific that provide free digital education programmes to under-served youth.
