Keeping safe and having fun when taking to the water
Keeping safe and having fun when taking to the water is
easier this summer.
Several local authorities are combining forces to create a one-stop information site that tells you everything you need to know before heading out to the beaches and rivers.
The Summer Check site provides the latest information on toxic algae and recreational water quality as well as providing access to MetService weather, sun protection information, water safety and harbour and boating information.
“We want to help people have a safe and healthy summer in the Wellington region and there are a number of things to watch out for when enjoying beaches and rivers. There’s plenty of helpful information and we thought it would help even more if it could be accessed all from one place or by easy access with your smart phone,” says the Regional Council’s environment spokesperson Barbara Donaldson.
Over the next few months a few small signs will be popping up at your favourite swimming spots. Look for the URL or QR code snuggled in the Summer Check sun and scan it with your smart phone to get straight to the Summer Check.
Wellington Regional, Masterton District,
Hutt City and Wellington City councils are combining forces
to promote the site on air and other local authorities and
agencies are helping get the message out in their own
districts.
The site will be launched on December 4th.
