Former Pulse Captain Gets Assistant Coach Role

Former Pulse Captain Gets Assistant Coach Role

4 December 2014

Netball Central Zone is delighted to announce the appointment of former Pulse and Samoa captain Frances Solia as the new Central Pulse Assistant Coach.

Pulse Head Coach Robyn Broughton is delighted to have someone who is both young and local. “Frances has a background in coaching in the region and has had great success recently with her Kapi-Mana team,” she said.

“This is an extension for Frances, it’s nice to see our young coaches developing. She is a local coach and that’s important. We’re very pleased to have her on board.”

Frances, aka ‘Froggy’, has played netball at an elite level, including taking part in two Commonwealth Games and three World Championships with Samoa, a World 7s series and stints in the ANZ Championship with both the Pulse and Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic.

The 38-year old mid-courter retired from playing in 2012 to start a family, but returned to netball as Centre Manager for Kapi-Mana and more recently as Emerging Talent Manager for Netball Central Zone.

A stalwart of PIC club netball and Kapi-Mana, Frances recently took her Kapi-Mana team to fifth place in 2014 Lion Foundation Netball Champs, winning four out the six games.

Frances is adjusting to the idea of being courtside for the ANZ Championship next season. “I’m still getting used to it. I’ve played a lot with the Pulse girls, so feel very humbled and appreciate the environment,” she explained.

“It’s great to work with Robyn. She coached me at the World 7’s and now we’re both working together.

“I’m confident that I can learn a lot from her. She’s a legend in the game, she’s well respected, and as an ex-player it’s great to have Robyn as the first person to start me on my coaching pathway.

“I couldn’t ask for a better start,” she added.

The Central Pulse open their 2015 ANZ Championship campaign against the Melbourne Vixens on Sunday 1 March at Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne.

The team will take part in a pre-season summer shoot-out tournament with the rest of the ANZ Championship teams on 6-8 February at the newly-completed Netball Central at Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney.

2015 ANZ Championship Season memberships are available through Ticketek at http://memberships.ticketek.co.nz/Pulse.
