GOLD and white water rafting
GOLD and white water rafting
Activation’s first GOLD programme for the season headed to the Otaki Gorge for a white water adventure
Upper Hutt, 17 December 2014 - On Thursday 11 December, Activation’s ‘GOLD’ (Growing Old Living Dangerously) programme introduced an adventurous group of Upper Hutt residents, to the swift white water in the Otaki Gorge. Heavy rainfall the day before led to high water levels and made for some very speedy rafting and exciting rapids.
The tour was led by Greg and the team from Captivate Adventures.
The GOLD group began the day with mixed levels of nerves and excitement, but finished the day with a strong sense of achievement. Many of the group stated that they were glad they “stepped out of their comfort zone” and challenged themselves.
“It was really rewarding to see people facing their fears and realising their potential,” said Activation’s Community Recreation Advisor, Chris Campbell. “The GOLD programme offers seniors the opportunity to do things they’ve always wanted to do, but never had the chance. I encourage and challenge anyone who has ever wanted to do these types of activities and never had the opportunity to give it a go with other like-minded people.”
This was the first activity offered in the series of adrenalin-fuelled adventures that will commence again in the New Year. The cost for each activity will vary from $30 to $100 and includes transport.
The next event for GOLD will be held in February and will consist of getting on the back of a motor cycle and going for a blast around the Upper Hutt hills. This activity will be advertised in early January with registrations open to anybody aged over 50.
