2015 Heineken Open Player Withdrawal

The NZ Festival of Tennis organisers have been informed that world number 17, Tommy Robredo, has withdrawn from the 2015 Heineken Open.

Robredo has sustained an adductor injury during preparation for the tournament, which has resulted in him having to withdraw.

“We are very disappointed as we would have loved to have seen Tommy out there, we know what a champion he is. He’s got a great reputation on tour for playing hard and competing, and I know that he wouldn’t be withdrawing today if he didn’t have to,” says Tournament Director, Karl Budge.

“I’ve long since learnt in my role that there are things you can’t control. The crowds are coming out in big numbers, and it’s nice to see the appreciation for all of the players taking part in the Heineken Open. Despite this news, we look forward to seeing some world-class tennis on centre court.”

Tommy Robredo had this to say,
“I arrived here on Friday and my intention was to play here. I have been trying to recover from an injury sustained in preparation, but I am not ready to play a match and I don’t think it’s fair for the players or the tournament.”

“It’s sad for me, I love to play here. I really wanted to play, but sometimes it is what is it. It is bad luck.” Robredo continues.

Michael Venus, who was due to meet Robredo in today’s second round match, will now take on ‘Lucky Loser’ – world number 136, Lucas Pouille.
