Bargwanna Wins Race One after Penalty Overturned

A penalty of 10 seconds against Australian NZV8 Touring Cars TLX driver Jason Bargwanna has been reversed therefore handing the win back to the Toyota driver from Saturday afternoon's race at Mike Pero Motorsport Park in Christchurch.

The penalty, given to Bargwanna for exceeding 80kph during the rolling start, originally handed the first win of 2015 to defending champion Nick Ross who had finished three seconds behind the Aussie.

However when challenged over the penalty the officials were unable to sufficiently substantiate their decision and therefore reversed it.

After the reversal Bargwanna reclaims the win in the with Nissan driver Ross in second and Australia's Scott Taylor in third.

In the NZV8 Touring Cars TL Championship Auckland's Kevin Williams has extended his lead by some margin against TKR driver Craig Baird with this fourth race win in succession.

Williams had a stunning weekend at Pukekohe Park Raceway in November with three race wins thereby claiming the lead in championship.

Baird, who won the opening round and sat in second place on the points table coming into round three, was a non-starter for race one on Saturday with the car remaining in the team garage throughout the race.

Newcomer to the series Jamie Gaskin from Wellington looked strong in both testing and qualifying in his debut.

Gaskin in a Ford TL qualified in second behind WIlliams starting alongside him on the front row of the TL cars and crossed the line just 01.23 seconds behind the Holden TL driver.

Invercargill young gun Liam McDonald placed third in his Ford TL demonstrating he is a man to be watched ont only this weekend but next when the NZV8 Touring Cars compete at his home track at Teretonga Park where he was victorious this time last year.

James McLaughlin who was expected to be very competitive this weekend was also a non starter in the TL category after suffering concussion in a crash while testing on Friday.

Today the action heats up with race two at 11.36AM which is a top five reverse grid 14 lap race. This is followed by race three at3.38PM which is 18 laps long and includes a mandatory wheel change for the TLX cars.
