Double double for Pagan Rimene in Southland
South Island-based Masterton woolhandler Pagan Rimene completed two memorable doubles when she won the Open woolhandling final at the national crossbred lambshearing championships yesterday at the Winton A and P Show’s Southland Shears.
It was her second win in a row in the event in which she scored a surprise win over Golden Shears and 2012 World Champion Joel Henare last year, and it was her second win in two days, having won also on Friday at the Northern Southland Community Shears at Lumsden Hills.
Having also won the New Zealand Corriedale Championships Open title at the Canterbury Show in November, she now looms as a strong prospect for the Woolhandler of the Year title at the Otago Championships and the 50th Anniversary Southern Shears Open title next month, and the Golden Shears in Masterton in March.
Henare, whom she also beat in the Corriedale final two months ago, was not at the two weekend events.
