St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival: Just a Few Days to Go!

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival: Just a Few Days to Go!

Laneway is now less than a week away, and boy oh boy, is it going to be a good one. Read on for info about what kind of rad food, drinks and activities will be on offer throughout the day and into the night, and some cheeky trivia tidbits about some of our favourite artists.

FOOD VENDORS

Full and hydrated people are happy people, and this year’s Laneway Festival has an awesome array of food and beverage vendors to keep you buzzing all day long -- including a huge range of vegetarian and vegan options. For a scrumptious selection of festival staples -- your burgers, birds, dogs and chips -- check out Burger Burger, The Bearded Clam, Brooklyn Dogs, The Food Truck, The Roaming Dive and Bird On A Wire. For pizza and pies, check out Heavenly Pies and Stumpy’s Pizza. For a fix of international flavours and fusions, look no further than Langos, Churro Loco, Fatimas, The Lucky Taco, Bangeritto, Urban Escargot, Yummy Thai and Fusion Flavours. Heal a thirsty throat with a cool refreshing Cocoloco Coconut, Karma Cola or Little Cloud Juice, or get your party pep on with a caffeine kick from Deluxe and Atomic roasters.

THE VIVIAN: BOUTIQUE NEW ZEALAND WINES

Laneway is ecstatic to have some of New Zealand’s best wine on offer again for 2015, once again supplied at The Vivian wine bar. Established by viticulture expert Peter Lorimer, The Vivian brings a boutique range of stunning biodynamic and sustainable wines from around the country, hand-picked by Peter and poured by his expert staff at breezy sea-side stations. Wines on offer include the dry and cool 2014 Lime Rock Pinot Gris ‘Kota’ from Central Hawke’s Bay; the moreish 2014 Two Rivers Riesling from Marlborough; the vibrantly clean 2014 Cambridge Road Papillon Blanc (white blend) from Martinborough; the crunchy red Black Cottage Rose from Marlborough; the raw and unabashed 2014 Cambridge Road Naturalist (sparkling Rose), Martinborough; and the oaky black fruits of the Cypress Syrah from the Hawke’s Bay. Cheers to that!

THUNDERDOME

The Thunderdome stage will be home to some of the best local and international bands and around, all burning hot in this cool-as, air-conditioned silo space. The Thunderdome brings an indoor vibe to the sun-soaked festival, perfect for night-seekers from mid-afternoon.

LANEWAY CHARITY: GARDEN TO TABLE

This year, Laneway are proud to be working with Garden to Table, a practical and engaging food literacy programme focused on teaching sustainable growing practices, healthy eating and socialisation around food to children. Spending time in a productive veggie garden and home-style kitchen every week, kids learn skills to last a lifetime, and discover just how much fun it is to grow and cook their own vegetables and fruits. Designed to empower schools to match the delivery of the programme with their own needs and resources, Garden to Table sees children get their hands dirty while learning how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh seasonal food. Laneway are making a donation from every ticket that has been sold to Garden to Table, and there will also be collections on the day. Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou ka ora ai te iwi. With your food basket and our food basket, the people will thrive.

THROW SOME SHADE

This summer’s been the hottest in recent human history, so we’ve made sure to provide more than 1500 square metres of shade to keep you guys cool in the sunshine. That said, be sure to wear your own sunsafe stuff -- you know the drill. No one likes a scorching!

THINGS YOU (PROBABLY) DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE 2015 LANEWAY ARTISTS

To wind up, let’s get back to what’s important: the music. Here are some little trivia tidbits about our awesome artists to impress your mates with… Smooth-talking MC Vic Mensa was once arrested for stealing condoms from a gas station. Some guys get all the action, eh. FKA Twigs used to be a back-up dancer for Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran, and Taio Cruz -- before winning her place front and centre. Before hitting the big time on the rock’nroll stage, Mac Demarco participated in medical experiments for money, and laboured on a road paving crew. Music is literally the lifeblood of Perfect Pussy -- in a limited pressing of ‘Say Yes To Love’, Meredith poured vials of her blood into the records. Jillian of Banks once gave her real phone number out on her facebook page (who wouldn’t love to get those digits), and Flying Lotus’ Steven Ellison once penned a tune for Adventure Time. So even super-producers love cartoons!

SEE YOU ON SHOW DAY…

That’s all for now, folks. Get ready to enter through the gates of boutique-music heaven. Grab your tickets to St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival 2015 from Ticketek.co.nz.
