Miles and Miles of Beautiful Smiles as Hundreds of Youngsters Living with Cancer Celebrate Special Summer Experience

You couldn’t take the smiles off the faces of hundreds of young children living with cancer who just experienced the time of their lives at the Camp Quality annual Regional Summer camps. And it wasn’t just the golden weather which bought them so much joy.

There were more than 290 youngsters aged 5-16 who attended the five summer camps organised by Camp Quality New Zealand, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to bringing fun, hope and happiness to children living with cancer, and year-round support to their families.

“Our regional summer camps are the heart and soul of Camp Quality, where we deliver a week of quality recreational programmes and fun experiences to hundreds of youngsters,” says CQNZ Chairman.“ And we are particularly grateful to the support of hundreds of volunteers who staff the camps, the companions who buddy up and provide 24/7 care and support for each child and the nurses who ensure medical assistance is always on hand.

This year CQNZ received a cheque for $5,122 from Lorraine Lea on the final day of the Auckland/Northland summer camp at Wesley College. Since the partnership with Camp Quality began two years ago Lorraine Lea has raised almost $15,000 to support the work of CQNZ.

According to Child Cancer Foundation statistics, about 150 young New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer each year.
