Peter Walls Appointed New CEO for Chamber Music New Zealand

Experienced classical music manager Peter Walls has been announced as the new Chief Executive at Chamber Music New Zealand.

Former CEO of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Peter Walls is currently the Pro Chancellor of Victoria University of Wellington.

CMNZ chair Roger King said the organisation was thrilled to have secured Peter as its new CEO.

“He is an highly astute and experienced manager and has a sound understanding of the classical music business in New Zealand.”

Prior to his role at the NZSO, Peter was Professor of Music at Victoria University, was made Emeritus Professor in 2006 and, in 2012, he received an ONZM for services to music.

Peter takes up his new role on 9 February, replacing Euan Murdoch who headed the organisation for almost 10 years and is leaving to be Director at Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music.

“I look forward hugely to taking up my new role at Chamber Music New Zealand – an organisation that I have long admired. I am proud to have this opportunity of working with an excellent group of colleagues to ensure the wide-ranging musical riches we have are available to all New Zealanders.”

Mr Walls added that 2015 was an exciting year to join CMNZ as the organisation celebrates the 50thanniversary of the first Chamber Music Contest. The year-long Jubilee celebrations bring together many alumni of the contest who have made their name on the international music stage.
