Hutt City gears up for big weekend of events

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

27 January 2015

Hutt City gears up for big weekend of events

Take a break at home this weekend with Hutt City’s huge line-up of events covering culture, food, music and summer sports.

Brad Monaghan, Divisional Manager City Promotions, says, “Sixteen events will take place over two days, and there’s something to cater to all interests and ages – it’s a great chance to get out and explore the city before school starts back.”

Saturday 31 January

The popular Te Rā o te Raukura festival launches at Te Whiti Park on Saturday 31 January, with the prestigious Wellington Māori Cultural Society Marae Haka.

Families and sports fans can make the most of the balmy summer weather on Saturdaymorning, and play beach cricket as part of the Hyundai Beach VS Beach 2015 cricket cup.

The Misty Mountain Hop Music Festival in Wainuiomata opens its gates on 9am Saturday for music fans, and continues through to the wee hours of Sunday morning.

Take your bean bags down to Dowse Square on Saturday night for Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, another free outdoor film in our summer series of Films by Starlight.

Sunday 1 February

Day two of Te Rā is headlined by Ardijah, Annie Crummer and Bella Kalolo; food vendors, stall holders and free games and activities round out a great must-visit festival.

The Hutt Valley Horticultural Society Summer Show is a classic Hutt City event – it’s on Sunday at The Dowse Art Museum.
