Niki Hill & Anya Whitlock

Niki Hill & Anya Whitlock

5 February - 5 March 2015

OPENING CELEBRATION Thursday 5th February 5.30pm

Pierre Peeters Gallery @ the VERO Centre is pleased to present two exhibitions of new works...

NIKI HILL // BIZARRE HIGH TEA

Niki Hill’s images simultaneously pull you into the perfectly still and dark warmth of their interiors and then, after you have had a moment to adjust to the dark, after closer examination, they startle and disrupt you.

Objects that should not be there, such as the skin and fur from animals, mixed up with the fine bone china, destabilize what is an otherwise frozen, perfect vanitas (still life).

These tableaux provoke conversations of beauty and the sublime, to the animalistic, the bodily and the flesh... the intricate cycle of life and death.

ANYA WHITLOCK // FABRIC PHANTOM SERIES 1

Anya Whitlock works across multiple creative disciplines. She is a Production Designer on films such as the recently released and award winning ‘Housebound’ and has worked in the Art department both in Vancouver as well as NZ on many features - Narnia, Mr Pip and Spartacus to name a few.

Anya draws on her extensive travels and experiences to inspire her Art practice. The presence and mystery of mummies and tombs explored in Egypt, the stunning gamut of colour and life in the textiles of India and Morocco and the geometry and depth of Islamic architecture in Syria, Israel and Spain are woven into the fabric of her style.
