Mainland Tactix Lose Talented Mid-courter To Knee Injury

The Mainland Tactix have been dealt a blow before the 2015 season with squad member Nicola Mackle potentially ruled out for the entire ANZ Championship season with a major knee injury.

Mackle, who debuted for the Tactix last year, has torn the meniscus in her right knee and will undergo surgery at the end of the week.

The 22 year old mid-courter was also recently selected into the Netball New Zealand Development Squad for 2015 and has played five ANZ Championship matches since signing for the Tactix at the beginning of last season. She sustained the injury while training this week, ahead of the ANZ Championship pre-season tournament in Sydney at the beginning of February.

Netball Mainland CEO Brigit Hearn says losing Mackle before the season even begins is upsetting for Nicola and the entire squad.

“This is a terrible blow for Nic, however she is fit, strong and determined and I am confident that she will rehabilitate well and we’ll see her back on the Netball court in the near future,” Hearn said.

Tactix development squad player Chloe Williamson has been promoted as a replacement player for the season. Williamson is a talented athlete and has been a member of the Netball Mainland high performance programme and Under 23 team for the past two seasons. She is a University of Canterbury student in her third year of study towards a Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education.

“Everyone here in the Mainland is thinking of Nic and we wish her well with the surgery and recovery.

“While it will be a steep learning curve for Chloe coming into the squad, she has the mental and physical skills to make the step up and will be a welcome addition.”

The Mainland Tactix start their pre-season campaign with matches across the Tasman in Sydney for the Pre-Season tournament over Waitangi weekend in which all ten ANZ Championship sides will compete.

The Tactix first home match of the 2015 ANZ Championship season is on March 2 at Horncastle Arena against the Northern Mystics. For more information, membership and ticketing details please visit www.tactix.org.nz
