Late Nights at Wellington Zoo this February

Late Nights at Wellington Zoo this February

Wellington Zoo is keeping its doors open to visitors late this month, staying open until 8pm every Wednesday in February for Zoo Twilights – and until 8.30pm on Valentine’s Day, Saturday 14 February.

Zoo Twilights were very popular last summer, so we’re bringing them back in 2015,” said Amy Hughes, General Manager Community Engagement.

“They’re the perfect opportunity for people to come and unwind after work or school with family and friends, and celebrate the fantastic weather Wellington is enjoying at the moment.”

The Zoo Shop and Mojo café will stay open until 8pm every Wednesday and visitors can also bring a picnic to enjoy on the Zoo grounds.

There will be special animal talks from 5-7.30pm, and visitors can book Close Encounters with Meerkats, Red Pandas, Lemurs, Lions, and Giraffes.

“The Zoo is a magical place in the evening. Visitors will have a great time – they might hear different animals call or engage with the animals that are less active during the day.”

Visitors can also celebrate this Valentine's Night at the Zoo on Saturday 14 February by treating that special someone to a wild night out.

“We’re offering an after-hours, adults-only Valentine’s Day experience. The Zoo will be open until 8.30pm, with live music, a lounge bar area, and special animal talks,” said Ms Hughes.

This year guests can also book an all-in-one Valentine's Day Package, which includes a delicious hamper and Zoo entry for two. A limited number of hampers will be available to purchase from Kamala’s on the night, but booking in advance is recommended.

“Valentine’s Night is the only time of the year when the Zoo is for adults only – a chance for the grown-ups to enjoy a picnic and a glass of wine, and learn more about what goes on when the lights go off in the animal kingdom.”
