ANZ Championship hots up with Summer
Shootout in Sydney
Sydney’s new
multi-million dollar Netball Central is ready to host its
first major tournament with all 10 ANZ Championship teams
arriving in town for the Summer Shootout.
The $35 million facility at Sydney Olympic Park – the new home of the NSW Swifts - was recently opened and the official ANZ Championship Pre-Season event, from 6-8 February, will be the venue’s first exposure to trans-Tasman netball.
Four of the Summer Shootout’s five sessions are sold out and ANZ Championship General Manager Andy Crook said the tournament promises to be action-packed, as teams fine-tune their preparations for what is shaping up as an exciting 2015 ANZ Championship season.
“In 2014 the ANZ Championship enhanced its reputation as one of the world’s greatest female sporting competitions,” Crook said.
“The Summer Shootout is not only a great opportunity for coaches and players to gain valuable match practice, it’s also an excellent chance for our fans to check out the new line-ups of their favourite teams.
“The fact that virtually every session has been sold out weeks in advance highlights just how eager our fans are to get their netball fix and can't wait for the regular season to begin.”
There only a handful of tickets still left for the opening night on Friday and can be purchased via the Swifts website.
Action begins at 5pm on Friday night and continues through until Sunday afternoon with 25 games scheduled over two courts comprising both full length and shortened matches consisting of two 15-minute periods.
Opening games feature defending champions the Melbourne Vixens taking on the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and West Coast Fever up against the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel.
The full draw is available here and the ANZ Championship Twitter and Facebook pages will be updating results over the tournament.
