Fever finish ANZ Championship Summer Shootout undefeated

West Coast Fever has finished the ANZ Championship Pre-Season Summer Shootout as the only unbeaten side after the tournament wrapped up at Netball Central on Sunday.

Fever went through the three days undefeated from their five outings in an encouraging sign for the upcoming season.

The Fever, which has never contested Finals in the ANZ Championship, were made to work hard for their last victory over the Central Pulse this morning before a final quarter blitz saw them power away to a 52-41 win.

“We’ve been setting little goals and taking little steps forward each and every time we get out there on court," Fever coach Stacey Rosman said.

“We’re really pleased with the condition of the team, physically we’re running hard and running for four quarters and that’s a big thing that we’ve been aiming for. We want to be a four quarter team and we want our combinations to be seamless and that’s what we’ve been able to put out there.”

Close matches was the theme of the final day of play of what has been an action-packed weekend of netball.

The NSW Swifts denied the Melbourne Vixens an unbeaten weekend by beating the reigning ANZ Championship champions in the final game of the tournament contested on their home court next door at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

The Swifts hauled in an eight-goal deficit early in the second quarter to claim a 49-46 win over the Vixens in a fitting climax to the Summer Shootout.
