Morriss to leave Boccia NZ

Boccia New Zealand (Boccia NZ) Board President, Harvey Brunt, today announced the resignation of Director of Boccia Luke Morriss from his role leading boccia development across New Zealand.

Morriss has been the driving force of bringing boccia back into prominence in the disability sport sector.

“I am really pleased to be leaving the organisation in a much better position than when I first started. The sport now has a number of new opportunities which can continue the development boccia has experienced in recent years” Morriss said.

“I would like to thank everyone for the effort and support you have shown as we have worked to rebuild the sport of boccia throughout New Zealand.”

Morriss has held the Director of Boccia role since September 2010 and is leaving Boccia NZ to take on the position of Coaching and Development Director at Squash NZ.

He added, “I am looking forward to a new challenge ensuring that community sport continues to grow in capability”.

Mr Brunt noted, “Luke has done an outstanding job leading a successful organisational restructure during his time with us”.

Mr Brunt indicated that the Board now consider how Morriss’ role will be filled in the long-term.

“Luke has been an integral part of Boccia during a pivotal period for the sport and organisation”, says President Harvey Brunt. “His work in growing participation rates and organisation capability has given us a great platform from which to continue from”.

Morriss will commence his new role at Squash NZ in March and will remain involved with Boccia NZ in a support capacity until a replacement Director of Boccia is in place.
