The All New Wine Destinations

The All New Wine Destinations - Backed by the Industry's Best

Building on the successful relaunch of flagship quarterly Destinations under new publisher Stephen Brown, Destinations Publishing is set to launch a new-look annual. To be released in June 2015, the fully redesigned and re-imagined Wine Destinations annual will be the most engaging and informative publication that the travelling wine lover is likely to find, according to Editor Michael Hooper.

With a foreword from the New Zealand Prime Minister, an introduction by the CEO of NZ Winegrowers, and input from some of the country’s most highly qualified wine and tourism experts, Wine Destinations will provide a range of authoritative perspectives on this significant New Zealand industry.

The annual also profiles the best-known wine families in New Zealand, and offers a light-hearted guide to travelling the wine trail by campervan, along with a peek at the trials of the burgeoning wine tourist trail by bicycle. The latest maps and descriptions of New Zealand’s major wine regions will aid the intrepid wine traveller, notes Brown, himself a wine enthusiast, while a wine lover’s movie guide from critic Kate Rodger will cater to the indoor types.

However, the focus of the annual will reach beyond New Zealand, making this edition of Wine Destinations unique. The publication extends its horizons to Thailand, Hungary, North America and even some of the world’s best wine-producing islands. It provides insight into the film industry’s most iconic champagne, tells the story of one man who redefined sauvignon blanc worldwide, and includes comment from legendary UK wine presenter Oz Clarke.

Technical considerations also come into play, as the magazine debates the effects of glassware on taste, outlines the character of different grapes and regions, and makes suggestions for inspired food and wine pairings.

Nearly a quarter of a million people engage with wine tourism in and to New Zealand every year, and the number is growing. Wine tourists stay longer and spend more, and of course Kiwis are inveterate wine travellers themselves.

The wine traveller in New Zealand falls mostly into two age groupings, 25 to 34 and 55 to 64 years. According to Tourism New Zealand, these travellers are increasingly staying in luxury lodges and retreats. They are driven mostly by a regional choice, and they seek cultural activities such as museums and galleries, as well as bird watching, dolphin spotting, and other wildlife encounters.

This highly insightful and entertaining issue of Wine Destinations is the essential wine connoisseur’s touring guide.
