It’s been the hottest summer in recent memory, and Silo Park’s been the heart of weekly events for families, friends and visitors to Auckland City. But it doesn’t stop here -- March at Silo Park is jam-packed with activities, events, movies and music to enjoy. Silo Cinema is back with a month of movie magic for your Friday night, Silo Markets are packed with a selection of specially curated themes, there’s seemingly endless music and DJs with Silo Sessions, and active, friendly dance lessons with Silo Social. The Silo Park season goes out with a few special surprise bangs this March -- read on to see what’s up for the summer’s last hurrah.

SUNDOWN FILMS AT SILO CINEMA EVERY FRIDAY

As the sun fades earlier from the sky, it’s the perfect opportunity to get involved with Silo Cinema, back for another month of Friday evening films enjoyed with the Waterfront neighbourhood. March’s programme kicks off on Friday 6th March with a special Sea Week showing of The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, thanks to Royal Caribbean. An offbeat, fun adventure film from iconic director Wes Anderson, this one’s a floating barrel of laughs for the whole family. In theme with Sea Week, this night Silo Park will be fundraising for Sustainable Coastlines, so get along and give to our beaches! Get freaky on Friday 13th March, the perfect night to celebrate all that’s spooky, with kooky horror flick Beetlejuice, from cult director Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton, of the recent Oscar-winning film Birdman, with proceeds going to the Red Cross. Friday 20th March sees heart-warming French comedy-drama The Intouchables, hit the big screen at Silo Park thanks to Citta. Silo Cinema goes out with a bite for the 2015 season on Friday 27th March with Steven Spielberg’s 1975 epic thriller Jaws -- one that will make you glad it’s no longer swimming weather.

SILO CINEMA LOVES: LOADING DOCS

For the final month of Silo Cinema screenings, each film will be preceded by a short film from the Loading Docs series; an impressive selection of documentary shorts exploring aspects of New Zealand culture and heritage, as told by some of New Zealand’s most talented and inquisitive film-makers. TO MARKET, TO MARKET

Silo Markets continue their active occupation of Silo Park at Wynyard Quarter - every Friday night from 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12noon until 6pm - with an eclectic and awesome range of retailers, food and beverage vendors, music and activities. There’s a few special themed markets coming up this March at Silo Park, when our invited guests play takeover for an afternoon (or evening) in the honour of all that’s niche!

SEA WEEK MARKET: NOT JUST FISH AND CHIPS

Sunday 8th March sees Silo Park play host to a special Sea Week Market, celebrating New Zealand’s connection to the sea. It’s an opportunity to recognise Auckland’s responsibility for protecting the oceans that surround our city and provide such spectacular scenery for our waterfront Silo Park.

DOING IT FOR THE KIDS: CHILDREN’S MARKET

Children are at heart of any community. Silo Park’s Children’s Market on Sunday 22nd March pays tribute to our city’s tiniest residents, with all the wonder and fun small eyes and ears could ask for. This is an opportunity for some of the youngest members of our city to showcase their creativity and promote their very own wares to families and friends from around Auckland and beyond.

WHITE NIGHT: BRING THE HEAT TO SILO PARK

White Night is not any old night at Silo Park, but a very special one -- complete with art, sounds and surprises from 7pm on Saturday 14th March. Fresh Concept and Monster Valley present an immersive themed evening, with an experiential market, followed by a special escape inside Silo 6 for the visual and musical art of Mardo El-Noor, Shannon Novak, Kody Nielson, Bic Runga, Boh Runga and Serj Tankian. From 9pm, you’ll catch Fijian dance and spoken word from contemporary dance group VOU at Silo 7, celebrating the Auckland Museum’s latest activations of its Fijian collections.

SILO SESSIONS: SATURDAY TAKEOVER WITH RICE & BEANS FESTIVAL

Silo Park is excited to announce that the Rice & Beans Festival will be taking over Wynyard Quarter for a one-off, eclectic mish-mash of music, culture, art and food for a special edition of Silo Sessions on Saturday 28th March 2015. Offering discerning Aucklanders fantastic free entertainment in their own backyard, the Rice & Beans Festival is the perfect family outing. Visitors can grab a bite to eat then settle in for an afternoon of South American tunes from an epic south of the border line-up.

SILO SOCIAL: NOT SO LAZY SUNDAYS

There’s a month of Sundays lined up at Silo Park with heaps of awesome free activities with Silo Sessions, from 3pm. Sunday 1st Tahitian Dance with Pacific Dance NZ . Things get passionate the following Sunday 15th March, with sassy salsa moves led by Dance Pasión, Auckland’s premier Argentinian dance company, focused on sharing authentic salsa with the world! Come Sunday 22nd March, some big time booty-licious soul vibes hit Silo Social with Gogococo, a soul-inspired dance duo ready to show Silo Park a good time! The Silo Markets will be in full swing, so grab a refreshing drink in between grooves, or cheer your mates on from the sidelines!
