Relics of the Historical Buddha Exhibition

(Maitreya Loving Kindness Tour)

We would like to invite you and representatives of your organisation to the opening ceremony next Friday 6th March of the Maitreya Loving Kindness Tour. The tour is a FREE public exhibition of ancient and sacred relics from the historical Lord Buddha and 40 other Buddhist masters from various parts of the world and will run for two days, next Saturdayand Sunday, 7-8th March.

The opening ceremony starts at 6pm this Friday and we would appreciate your participation. The venue is the Atrium, situated next to the Netball Courts in North Hagley Park. Access is one one on Hagley Ave which is best accessed from Selwyn Street at the moment due to roadworks.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama graciously contributed eight relics of the historical Buddha to the collection which are each over 2,600 years old. Relics have also been offered from the Sakya Reliquary in Tibet and from the Meiktila Museum in Burma that has housed Buddha Relics for many hundreds of years. There are over 3,000 relics in this collection. Many of them are pearl-like crystals that Tibetans call 'Ringsel', in Sanskrit they are called 'Sarira.' This will be the first time these relics have been exhibited in Christchurch.
