Mondiale Aces face Wellington without Nicol

Monday, 16 March 2015

The Mondiale Auckland Aces will head into their eighth round home clash against the Wellington Firebirds without their regular skipper Rob Nicol.

Nicol was hit on the head by a Neil Wagner bouncer in the last game in Dunedin and is still in a concussion stand down period that makes him unavailable for this game.

His absence has brought about the return of Carl Cachopa, and Lockie Ferguson has also come into the twelve to replace Colin de Grandhomme who is still on the road back from injury.

The Mondiale Aces head into the game tomorrow with back to back losses to their name and needing to turn that around to keep their Plunket Shield title hopes alive.

The loss to the Otago Volts in the last round has seen them slip to third on the points table and needing to do some catch-up work to peg back leaders Canterbury.

Coach Matt Horne believes that although their last result was disappointing it’s something that his side can quickly turn around.

“To win in this form of cricket you’ve got to get the basics right over four days and we didn’t do that in Dunedin. There’s been plenty of talk about that since then and it’s up to the players to make it happen on the field from tomorrow, which I’m confident they will do.”

A team for the game that starts at 10.30am tomorrow, 17 March, at Colin Maiden Park will be named from the following 12 players:

Michael Bates (Captain)
Dean Bartlett
Brad Cachopa
Carl Cachopa
Lockie Ferguson
Donovan Grobbelaar
Anaru Kitchen
Colin Munro
Tarun Nethula
Robert O’Donnell
Matt Quinn
Jeet Raval
